Incredible Performance of MFL Employee
December 23, 2017
On December 23, 2017, Michael Haberl, working in the department Order Processing of MFL Mechanical Engineering, ran the incredible distance of 122 km from Graz to Wald am Schoberpass on one single day. During this run he transported the Light of Peace from Bethlehem with a gas-powered torch to hand it over to all fire brigades of the Leoben district.
It was Michael Haberl, 31, long-distance runner, fireman and mountain rescuer who came up first with the idea for this project. Its practical implementation was planned together with the Fire Brigade Federation and the Voluntary Fire Brigade Wald am Schoberpass.
The start was at 3 a.m. and after approx. 13 hours total running time “Superman“ Haberl reached his home village Wald am Schoberpass.
Pure physical fitness is not sufficient to be able to run this almost unimaginable distance in a single day. It takes an exceptionally strong will and absolutely “burning for a good cause“ to master this challenge.
The proceeds resulting from donations and sponsorship money were used to support the Down Syndrome Centre in Hinterberg/Leoben.
